That's right, it's been a whole year since I started my bookstagram journey. I've not only found new depth and passion for reading, but I have been inspired to embark on my own creative journey. Here are just some of my highlights from the year.
Becoming an IG Rep for Goodnight Boutique
I had never heard of 'IG reps' before I stumbled onto Goodnight Boutique's advertisement for one. I had been following Laura for a long time because her designs were not only beautiful, but a clear representation of the literature lover behind them. When it was announced that I would join two other talented reps, I was elated. I can't tell you how happy it made me feel, and the new challenge of working with a company I already admired was just exhilarating. Thanks again, Laura.
Creating my beloved blog, The Reader's Review
As you can read in the above caption, this time last year I wasn't writing at all, and I wasn't okay with that. I studied journalism, and even as a child I had a passion for writing which couldn't be explained. However, I haven't gotten into a job that required any writing and so my confidence in my abilities plummeted. After viewing and reading all the gorgeous posts on bookstagram, and some inspiring conversations with Beverley Lee, author of The Making of Gabriel Davenport, I was inspired to create The Reader's Review. Since April last year, my blog has gone from strength-to-strength and provides me with so much happiness. Thank you to you all who have supported me from the beginning, and continue to support me.
Connecting with seriously talented authors of all genres
As an aspiring author, I never imagined that I could connect with other authors in the way I have through bookstagram. I have not only been lucky enough to receive ARC's of some incredible reads, but I have also had the opportunity to interview several talented authors including G.R Thomas and J.M. Muller. Getting a sneak peak behind the writing-process curtain has just been inspiring.
Setting up the #bookstagramletterexchange which connected me with reader's all over the globe
Now this was a fun one. One day back in May last year, I realised that I loved hand-writing letters, but hadn't actually sent one for many years. So I posted an appeal on IG, asking people to send me their address, so I could send them a little letter. The response got CRAZY. I ended up sending letters all over the UK, South Africa, China, the US, Australia and many more. A lot of people (even non-bookstagrammers) felt the same as me, and wanted to bring back the art of letter writing.
Discovering new friendships with like-minded people
This is my biggest highlight. I've always been a reader, and I've always loved buying pretty books and admiring talented authors. It's been incredible to share that passion with the people of bookstagram, because before, I was very much alone in that interest. I have made some genuine friendships which I believe will continue to grow and blossom. You know who you are, and I thank you for the support and love.
